Google has finally officially brought us their newest flagship smartphone Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, so do they have an advantage over Apple’s upcoming IPhone X? In foreign media, Google’s flagship product also has its own secret weapon.
This secret weapon is nothing else, it is Google’s own development of the first mobile chip, it is known as Pixel Visual Core, it is Google for consumer products, a customized chip system (SOC), currently dedicated to speed up the camera hdr+ calculation, so that the image processing more smooth and fast.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL have built-in Pixel Visual Core, but the processor is currently dormant and Google may activate the processor after the software is ready.
Pixel Visual Core is an image Processing unit (IPU) similar to the conventional 8-core SOC. Technically, it has a 9th * *, that is, an ARM cortex-a53 unit in the upper left corner. Of the 8 Google designs, each is tailored to handle hdr+, which uses less than 1/10 of the power, allowing HDR + performance to be 5 times times faster than currently implemented.
And Google says that after updating the Android Camera API, they will allow third-party camera developers to use HDR + and Pixel Visual Core, which will be the developer option in the Android Oreo 8.1 preview. Clearly, all of these technologies are strictly limited to Pixel 2. Google excludes current Pixel owners and other Android users. Because Google recognizes that Pixel Visual Core will become a unique selling point for the Pixel 2 camera system, it is working to develop and expand its leadership position.
Can say that Google is already on its own in the processing of images of weapons, then Apple’s flagship IPhone can better deal with it? We all know that the IPhone X will be equipped with a bionic A11 processor, the TSMC Foundry employs the latest mature technology, which includes 4 Mistral (Energy efficiency * *) + 2 Monsoon (Performance * *). Compared with A10, four energy-efficient * * speeds up to 70% and two performance * * speeds up to a maximum of 25%.
At the same time, both the GPU and ISP have been developed by Apple, the three-core GPU is up to 30% faster than the previous generation, and the ISP can achieve faster autofocus in low brightness environment and improve pixel processing effectively.
The upgrade of the camera will put forward higher requirements for the image integration processing ability and precision algorithm of the scheme maker and module enterprise. The use of dual-camera and independent ISP (image signal processor) will be the technology base of camera upgrade, and special image memory will be standard for future smartphone and consumer electronic camera module.
